Growing, Tulips, by Renée Neme, is a poetic record of love and heartbreak, of a life lived fully, of fleeting presence and passing death. Its poetic imagery reaches beyond the page: red rivers of mint cascade like waterfalls, and birds long to feel something they have already lost.

Through poems, drawings, and photographs, this record continues to grow in search of images that endure. The author seeks to build a bridge between the written word and the material world, giving words shape, form, and hands. In doing so, the book expands into another material dimension. Growing, Tulips is more than a collection of poems. It is a self-generating ecosystem that opens up new paths and possibilities from a single poem.

The book is divided into three chapters, each devoted to a part of a tulip and, at the same time, to a stage in the life of a woman moving through moments of uncertainty. The first, Trampled Petals, describes a moment when everything has been destroyed, yet the essence of the flower, its scent, remains. Next comes Stem, Keep Growing Even When You Don’t Know Why. The final chapter, Seed, marks the moment of letting go and leaving. And just as the book speaks of growth, it also blossoms in its physical form: each chapter is one centimeter longer than the previous one.

Growing, Tulips speaks of a life we have all lived, in a language we share. A place where the absence of the letter R makes everything hurt a little more, where flowers grow through tears, and where another life exists in the green water of flowers. The creation of something deeply felt.
