El sábado 6 de marzo, la colectiva feminista Antimonumenta CDMX intervino estas vallas escribiendo los nombres de víctimas recientes de feminicidio en México. Durante las horas siguientes, cientos de mujeres acudieron de manera espontánea para honrar a las ausentes, escribiendo nombres y dejando flores: una ofrenda colectiva para recordar, no olvidar y nombrar a quienes ya no están.
Esta serie fotográfica documenta las vallas intervenidas durante esos días para que continúen siendo leídas. Un homenaje y, al mismo tiempo, un grito de rebeldía frente a la indiferencia y el olvido.
On the eve of the 2021 International Women’s Day demonstrations, the Mexican government erected metal barricades around the National Palace—the seat of federal executive power—in the heart of Mexico City. The stated aim was to prevent damage during the protests and, according to the President’s spokesperson, to “protect the heritage of all Mexicans and avoid confrontation… a wall of peace that guarantees freedom and protection from provocations.”
On Saturday, March 6, the feminist collective Antimonumenta CDMX intervened the barricades by painting on them the names of recent victims of femicide in Mexico. Over the following hours, hundreds of women spontaneously gathered to honor the absent, writing names and leaving flowers—an offering to remember them, to not forget, and to give them presence.
This photographic series documents the intervened barricades so that they may continue to be read. An homage and a cry of rebellion in the face of indifference and erasure.
